Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized in Luxembourg after sustaining an injury while participating in a congressional delegation (CODEL) trip, according to a statement from her office on Friday. The delegation was in Luxembourg to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, a pivotal event in World War II history. Pelosi’s spokesperson, Ian Krager, confirmed the incident, noting that she "sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation." While the specific nature of her injury has not been disclosed, reports indicate it may have occurred following a group photo with other lawmakers and officials.

Despite her hospitalization, she remains actively engaged in her duties. "Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals," Krager said. However, she will not be able to attend the remaining CODEL engagements. Pelosi extended her gratitude to U.S. veterans and the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their roles during World War II and their continued efforts toward peace in Europe.

The congressional delegation, consisting of 18 members from both parties, was led by House Speaker Mike Johnson. Among the lawmakers on the trip were Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, Chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Democratic Rep. Mark Takano, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

Pelosi’s presence on this trip held personal significance, as she noted connections to her own family history during World War II. Her uncle, Johnny, was among those who served during the conflict, highlighting her deep familial ties to the sacrifices made during that historic period.

This marks another milestone in Pelosi’s illustrious career, as she recently secured her 20th term as a representative for California, underscoring her enduring influence within the Democratic Party. Although she stepped down from House leadership in 2022, Pelosi continues to be a prominent figure in U.S. politics.

As Pelosi recovers, her office anticipates her return to the U.S. in the coming days.
